AFASP – Automatic Fire Alarm Service Provider (Accredited by the NZFS)
ASE – Fire Alarm Signalling Equipment used by ADT
ASP – Application Service Provider (web based service)
ALARMSWITCH – Application software used to administer & monitor alarms by ALARMNZ
ANALOGUE CIRCUIT – Outdated telephone line based technology (POT)
ADSL – Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line – High speed hardwired (cabled) broadband access up to 20Mbps
ALARMSERVER – A device to interface existing analogue systems to IP signalling/receiving systems
APSU – Alarm Power Supply Unit – Intelligent power supply used to power NAD equipment

BROADBAND– High speed digital network internet communication

CTU – Fire Alarm Communications Terminal Unit used by AFAM2
CDMA – Code Division Multiple Access - Radio Modem Mobile Wireless A Telecom system low speed broadband access due to be phased out

DIAL-UP – Very slow manual access to internet only up to 64Kbps
DEMACATION POINT – Point at which the responsibility ends from provider to customer
DBA – Direct Brigade Alarm – Converts a water contact (sprinkler) to a electrical switch ant SGD protocol

FIBRE OPTIC – Ultra high speed network access up to 10Gbps

GPRS – Vodafone low speed broadband access

IP – Internet Protocol
ISP – Internet Service Provider

MHS – Message Handling System used by the NZFS
MCP – Manual Call Point – Red box on wall with glass cover. In case of an emergency, break glass and flick switch

ONT – Optical Network Terminal – Fibre optic broadband interface

POT – Plain Old Telephone (analogue)
PSTN – Public Switched Telephone Network - Backup analogue phone line
POINT - Individual Sensor assigned to a Zone

RGW -  Broadband Residential gateway device normally supplied by ISP

SGD – Signal Generating Device
SMARTMAP – Intelligent mapping & administration system used by emergency services

VDSL – Very high speed version of ADSL up to 100Mbps
